Everyone knows that a marketing plan is essential to the success of every business. If you don’t have one, develop one, then put the plan in a three-ring binder to use as a quick desk reference. Refer to it often and monthly is not to often. Place tabs in it and keep up with your progress regarding your results; this allows you to track performance as you follow the plan and to make needed changes as you go.

Consider that even blueprints need tweaking once you break ground.

The term marketing covers everything from company culture and positioning, through market research, new business/product development, advertising and promotion, PR (public/press relations), and arguably all of the sales functions as well. You can see a good plan covers a lot and should always include the Four P’s: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
